	The Waterbury family are happy until mysterious men take their father away and they have to move up to Yorkshire without him. The three open-hearted children soon find themselves involved in several unexpected dramas on the railway that runs past their new home.

'The Railway Children' is a period drama about three siblings who have a series of adventures connected to the local steam railway. The film contains scenes of characters in danger. The film contains several scenes in which the central child characters and their friends are placed in some danger. These include the children standing on or alongside the railway line in order to stop a train before it crashes into some fallen trees and one moment in which a young boy runs through a railway tunnel only to fall and hurt his leg, pulling himself clear seconds before a train hurtles past. In both cases there is some tension and sense of threat to the child characters but this quickly passes and each storyline has a swift, happy resolution in which no-one is ever badly hurt. The film also contains some scenes of emotional distress as the children are briefly upset by the disappearance of their father and the short illness of their mother. 'U' stands for Universal, which means that we think the film is suitable for audiences aged four or older.
