SELMA is a US drama based on the true story of Martin Luther King and the Selma to Montgomery civil rights marches.

Violence

There are several scenes of moderate violence, including fights and a shooting. There is some sight of blood and injury. For example in one long scene protestors clash with police, who use batons, whips and tear gas; after the clash, several people are shown with blood on their faces. In another scene, two protestors are beaten, with sight of blood flying from one man's mouth as he is kicked.

Discrimination

Frequent use of racist language as well as discriminatory behaviour. Although racism is a major theme of the film, the film clearly shows this behaviour is wrong.

Language

Infrequent use of strong language, as well as various uses of milder bad language.

There are also mild sex references.

TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES is a US action adventure about a group of mutant turtles who team up with a young reporter to defeat a threat to their city.

Violence

There are frequent scenes of martial arts violence, which include kicks to the face, chest and legs that send characters flying into walls and through windows. Some characters are thrown through moving train windows, or out of moving vehicles. There is lots of gunfire, although most characters are not harmed; when one man is shot, there is no blood or injury detail. There is a lot of focus on a character who has a suit entirely made out of metal blades, including ones which he flicks open on his hands and sends flying out at those he is fighting. The violence is often accompanied by jokey asides made by the main characters.

Threat

There are frequent moments of threat, including people being held hostage at gunpoint, or being left dangling from roofs, cliffs or the sides of speeding trucks.

Other issues include mild bad language. There are also some mild sex references as a man looks at a woman's clothed bottom, and as some characters use a large billboard advert, showing a woman wearing a bra, in order to hide.

IRON MAN THREE is the latest in the series of Marvel Comics action adventure films. Tony Stark pledges to battle the threat posed to America by an international terrorist known as The Mandarin. However, he finds even more dangerous forces at work as he encounters an army of genetically modified super-warriors that he must fight without his powerful Iron Man technology.

Violence

There are some intense action scenes in which the heroes and villains battle, delivering punches and blows and attacking each other with weapons. These scenes are similar to those in other recent films featuring superhero characters. There are some strong blows but there isn't a lot of detail, and it is highly stylised. There are no realistic images of injury. Moments of more realistic violence and threat are very brief, and there are comic moments and jokes to break the intensity.

Language

There is some moderate bad language.

The film also contains infrequent mild sex references and innuendo.

THE CROODS is an animated film about a pre-historic family who are uprooted from their familiar cave and forced to travel to unknown areas.

Threat

From the beginning of the film we see the daily struggle for survival for a family of cave-people, who live amongst exotic and dangerous animals. Hunting and chase sequences are presented in a comic fashion and the level of threat is mild. In the early part of the film the family try to steal a large bird's egg for a meal. In order to do this they have to fight off a large predatory cat, other animals, and the bird itself.

Later in the film they find themselves in unfamiliar surroundings and are involved in similar chases involving different creatures. This includes a flock of flesh eating birds and an even bigger predatory cat. Throughout the film the family's resourcefulness is on display and it is clear that they are likely to win in their battles against wildlife. In the final part of the film the family have to run from a series of earthquakes, during which they again show their resourcefulness.

Violence

In a prison fight scene, bladed weapons are used. A man is shot and some blood is seen on his top. However, the man is fine and the bullet is soon removed. There are also various shootings between the two gangs.

Language

Violence

There are a number of battles between aliens and robots which mainly take place at sea. Heavy blows are landed by the robots, with the aliens fighting back using spikes and teeth which pierce the armour and, on occasion, tear off robotic limbs and metal body plates. Humans controlling the robots sustain occasional injuries and we see some blood and it is implied some characters are killed.

The aliens are also seen rampaging through cities, demolishing buildings, as people flee in terror, and there is a flashback to a child frightened by an alien.
