MAN OF STEEL is a new version of the Superman story, covering his origins on his home planet of Krypton, his childhood on Earth, and his battle with super-powered villains from Krypton.

Violence

Early scenes in the film show the battles that took place on the planet Krypton between Superman's father and the principal villain, General Zod. These fights include some crunchy blows and some headbutts. General Zod is seen with blood trickling down his face from a cut to his temple. A fatal stabbing also occurs but this is below frame. In the second half of the film, General Zod and his allies arrive on Earth to kill Superman. They all have the same superpowers as Superman and their battles are therefore evenly matched. Nonetheless, huge destruction and devastation are inflicted on the city of Metropolis as the battling protagonists throw and punch each other, crashing into and through buildings.

Language

The film also contains some mild bad language. This mostly occurs during flashback scenes in which the young Clark Kent is being teased by a school bully.

The scenes of Clark as a baby on his home planet show the baby lying naked in his spacecraft, but the nudity is entirely natural.

In another scene, a Jewish man is forced from his home; when another man attempts to intervene, he is pushed to the ground and is subsequently seen to have a bloodied head. Further threat occurs as Nazis are shown searching houses and marching Jewish people through the streets.

There is also some mild violence, as a young girl fights a bully in the playground, delivering some punches to his body. The bully is also seen to slap another young boy on the face. There is very brief sight of a young boy who has died as a result of an illness, with a small trickle of blood running from his nose. His body is wrapped in a blanket and then buried.
