BBFC takes part in the 25th Cinemagic Film and Television Festival

The BBFC is pleased to be taking part in the 25th Cinemagic film festival. BBFC workshops for under-12s formed part of the first stage of the festival in October, while students aged 12-25 can look forward to the November programme of film screenings, competitions, Q&A’s, film and television workshops and masterclasses.

The action packed Cinemagic Belfast Film and Television Festival for under 12 year olds returned for its 25th Anniversary Edition, from 3rd-17th October. The festival offers under-12s the chance to see new film previews from around the world, take part in film & television workshops and a film education programme in partnership with George Best Belfast City Airport.

The BBFC’s screening and workshop for under-12s introduced over 200 children to how films are classified and why, using Earth to Echo (PG) as a case study.

Heidi Renton, BBFC Education Officer said: “This is the 8th year we’ve taken part in Cinemagic and we’re very pleased to help the festival mark its 25th Anniversary. Hearing young people’s thoughts about film classification is important to the BBFC’s work. We included teens in our last review of the Classification Guidelines in 2013 and use our school visits to monitor trends in what young people tell us about their experiences of film classification. The festival is an excellent place for young and older students to engage with film classification alongside wider topics such as film and TV production.”
