Content advice

We publish detailed information about the content of every film that we rate, which is aimed particularly at parents and those with responsibility for looking after children.

Our content advice offers a summary of how and why a film was rated at any given category and gives you a list of the issues in the film including some brief examples.

Our content advice provides a short description of the issues contained in a film, on video or DVD, and this appears on the black card shown on the cinema screen before a film starts. You’ll also see it on film posters, listings and DVD packaging, and on some video on demand (VoD) services, such as Netflix and on this site, and longer information published on our main website www.bbfc.co.uk. We don’t give live links to our main website as it includes information about all the age ratings and all of our decisions, so includes reference to adult material.

It is designed to help you choose what films to let your children see.
