Create The Card Competition 2022/2023 - Puss In Boots: The Last Wish

Embark on an adventure of nine lifetimes by designing a BBFC Black Card for Universal Pictures’ Puss In Boots: The Last Wish.

From the early days of cinema, we’ve been giving films age ratings on our famous Black Cards. The BBFC Black Card marks the excitement of a film starting and represents a huge part of the UK cinema experience.

Now, we're giving your students (aged 4-11) the opportunity to design a unique Black Card for Puss In Boots: The Last Wish - and be in with a chance of seeing their idea on the big screen in front of a big blockbuster movie.

Next February, your students’ creation could be selected as the special Black Card that will be displayed in cinemas before every single UK showing of Puss In Boots: The Last Wish - the upcoming sequel and the second instalment of the beloved Puss In Boots franchise. It's a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for them to see their picture and name up in lights, and it will be seen by audiences up and down the country!

If you are a Key Stage 2 teacher, you can even deliver the competition as part of the myths and legends section of the English Curriculum alongside our free PSHE resource.

How to enter

To enter, send us your students’ artwork on a landscape A4 piece of paper - they can use any technique they like, but the more creative, the better. It must be all their own work, and we can’t accept any entries that use images taken from films or online. Then, post their original entries to the BBFC London offices (Create The Card Competition, BBFC, 3 Soho Square, London, W1D 3HD). You can also scan the pictures and email it to us at createthecardcompetition@bbfc.co.uk.

As the design will become the real Black Card, please remind your class to leave a space for the BBFC logo and the title of the film. We will add in the other important information (the signatures of our CEO and President who approve each decision, the film's unique code, and our BBFC ratings info). You can download the template here.

Top tips for your students

  • Bright, colourful designs that fill the box will produce the best results!

  • Use paint, felt tip, crayon, inks and coloured pencils.

  • Please do not use loose glitter in your designs.

  • If you are doing a collage, please do not make the sheet thicker than 2 pieces of paper.

  • Please don't fold the artwork, or use staples or sellotape.

  • Avoid metallic finishes over large areas.

Who will decide on the winner?

Our BBFC education team, working with the team who creates Black Cards for all cinema film releases in the UK, will select a short list. The final design will be chosen by our CEO and President - you will have seen their signatures on the big screen at the cinema! We’re also delighted to have some special guests from Universal Pictures co-judging the competition and sitting on the panel too.

The entries will be judged on creativity, originality, and innovation. We encourage entrants to harness the fairytale magic from the enchanting and wonderful world of Puss In Boots.

As well as seeing their Black Card on the big screen in front of Puss In Boots: The Last Wish, the winner will also receive four tickets to a special screening of the film, a framed copy of their BBFC Black Card, along with some film merchandise. 10 runners-up will also receive a goody bag.

Rules

The competition is open to all residents of the UK, including the Channel Islands, aged 4-11. You can post your students’ entries to us at ‘Create The Card Competition, BBFC, 3 Soho Square, London, WD1 3HD,’ or you can email them to us at createthecardcompetition@bbfc.co.uk

Make sure to include your students' name, age, school, and the details of an adult caregiver whom we can contact and who has given them permission to enter on the back.

Don’t forget to check out the terms and conditions.

Please note that we have now extended the deadline date of our competition. The competition now closes at 23:59 on Sunday 1 January and the winner will be announced at the end of January, ahead of the film’s release in UK cinemas from Friday 3 February.

The quest is on. Best of luck!

Our Puss In Boots: The Last Wish Create The Card competition is the ‘purrfect’ activity to do with your Key Stage 2 students. The Dreamworks’ Puss In Boots franchise showcases many beloved fairytale characters and links well to the myths and legends section of the primary school curriculum.

The competition can also supplement our Key Stage 2 PSHE resource "Let's Watch a Film! Making choices about what to watch". Our free resource includes teacher guidance, lesson plans and activities and can help your pupils as they learn to navigate the fast-changing world of online content.
